When the master, Pablo Picasso, asked “Who sees the human figure correctly? The photographer, the mirror or the painter?”, he had not met Rankin. The A.Galerie pays homage to the most comprehensive and most moving photographer of his generation.

The 44-year-old Scotsman, born John Rankin Waddell, has not only succeeded in having his portrait of Queen Elizabeth II hung in the prestigious National Portrait Gallery in London, but also in convincing Fiona Brice to pose nude in a shopping trolley for a brilliantly and tenderly subversive work. The 26th arrondissement gallery is bringing together around 30 of his unseen prints, in which major stars are often posing in nothing more than nature gave them. Rankin succeeds in what every portrait artist yearns to do – not just to photograph a person, but a life.
